Biochemistry plays an increasingly important role in scientific medicine, the pharmaceutical industry, agriculture, nutrition and the food industry, environmental sciences, and the emerging area of biotechnology. The biochemistry major at Regis College aims to foster in students the intellectual background necessary for success in a modern scientific endeavor. Curriculum requirements are designed to build a solid scientific grounding while allowing flexibility for concentration in areas consistent with specific student goals. All of this is offered in the context of a broad liberal arts education. One of our primary goals is to give students hands-on laboratory experience; our labs are designed with computers and instrumentation to facilitate this goal. We also place students in work-study positions ranging from involvement in reagent preparation to teaching assistantships. This experience?along with the rigorous curriculum?provides excellent training for a career or post-graduate studies in chemistry, biochemistry, and related fields. We strongly encourage biochemistry majors to pursue internships and research opportunities during the last two years of study.
