MUSIC MAJOR The Department of Fine and Performing Arts currently offers three music major degrees: the Bachelor of Arts In Music; the Bachelor of Arts In Music Performance; and the Bachelor of Arts In Music History and Literature. In addition, students may also pursue the Structured Music Minor. Students pursuing the music major at Regis will be exposed to an intellectual and stimulating artistic environment where students learn about music as an art form and experience it as a unique vehicle for individual expression and creativity. Recognizing music as a fundamental element of the human experience and an important component of the liberal arts education within the context of a Jesuit university, the curriculum is designed to provide students with the tools necessary not only to understand and to perform music, but also to appreciate music?s role in human history and its potential to enhance the lives of all people. The music major curriculum offers a comprehensive course of study in historical, cultural, theoretical, and performance perspectives. With a grounding in the traditional musical styles of Western art music, music majors will also acquire an essential awareness and knowledge of contemporary musical directions, American music, interdisciplinary studies between music and art, and the musical traditions of other cultures. Bachelor of Arts in Music The Bachelor of Arts in Music is an academically oriented degree , aimed at liberal arts students who would like to study music as a humanistic discipline. The degree offers music majors a broad range of musical knowledge with specialization at the higher levels in such areas as orchestration, arranging and conducting, performance, counterpoint, music history and music theory.
