Estheology from Ridgewater College - Wilmar is a Campus Certificate Esthetician degree that prepares you for a Vocational Programs career. About the Program Ridgewater uses the leading educational systems in the esthetic industry providing students with the knowledge and skills needed to seek employment in a full-service salon and day spa or medi-spa environment. The curriculum includes pre-clinic classroom instruction, giving students a solid theory-based education, along with the top-of-the-line technical skills needed in today?s industry. Included in this program is a para-medical approach to esthetics, including microdermabrasion, in-depth study of acne treatments, alpha hydroxy acid peeling, and the use of custom-blended skin care products/treatments to correct skin conditions. Students study the skin types, skin conditions, treatment procedures, and the use of ingredients to correct and control skin conditions. The second phase of the program focuses on clinical experience where our students provide make-up services to clients coming into the Ridgewater Salon and Day Spa. Upon completion of the program, students will have completed all necessary requirements for licensure through the Minnesota Board of Cosmetologist Examiners and be ready to seek employment in top-of-the-line salons, day spas, or medi-spa environments. Our state-of-the-art facility includes the newest and latest equipment used in the industry. Students will have hands-on experience operating microdermabrasion machines and a seven-function machine including ionized vapor, rotary brushes, vacuum, high-frequency dermascope, cool mist, and woods lamp. Also included in the program is the application of various types of make-up including daytime, evening, black/white and color photography. Students study facial geometries and focus on highlighting and contouring to enhance client features. They combine color schemes to compliment the skin tone and eye color using various products from our new mineral cosmetic line. Upon entering the program, students are required to purchase a kit containing equipment, implements, textbooks, workbooks, and materials necessary to start a career as a professional esthetician . Also required are estheology uniforms available at the Ridgewater College Cosmetology department. Career/Occupational Info Estheticians provide a variety of services in the skin care industry including basic and corrective facial treatment procedures, make-up applications, massage techniques, temporary hair removal and body treatment procedures. As skin care specialists , estheticians also perform advanced techniques provided in full-service salons and medical day spa environments, including microdermabrasion and alpha hydroxy acid peels. Estheticians find careers in the luxurious land of salons, day spas, first-class hotels, and cruise ships providing relaxing facial and esthetic-related services in a spa environment. Some estheticians take the para-medical route, working in a dermatologist or plastic surgeon offices in a medi-spa environment providing services such as microdermabrasion, alpha hydroxy acid peels, and other esthetic-related services.
