Farm Operation and Management from Ridgewater College - Wilmar is a Campus Certificate Farming degree that prepares you for a Agriculture career. The two-year Farm Operation and Management program includes courses in all phases of technical agriculture with special emphasis on farm management. Students enrolled in Farm Operation and Management have a choice of four specializations: 1. Farm Management 2. Crop Science 3. Animal Science 4. Dairy Science Students attend classes for approximately six weeks and then are released for a four-week period of internship during the height of fall field work. Upon their return, they follow the regular schedule until they are released in April for a spring internship. During the summer session, students are given the option of attending any or all of the courses offered. Career/Occupational Info Farming today is a highly technical profession. A farmer requires expertise in many facets of the operation, such as livestock feeding, breeding and management, machinery management , crops, weeds, insects, crop protection products, plant food, and marketing. Ridgewater offers courses in all these areas to provide students a background in all areas of farm management. Many employment openings exist for students in Farm Operation and Management with good to average compensation. In recent years, we received nearly 100 openings for farm employment for dairy and swine herdspersons and crop farm work.
