Massage Therapy from Ridgewater College - Wilmar is a Campus Certificate Massage Therapy degree that prepares you for a Healthcare career. Basic Massage Therapy The Basic Massage Therapy program provides students with a certification in Esalen Massage techniques for full body, partial body, and seated-chair massage designed primarily for relaxation. Students will complete their field experience on campus in the Student Massage Center adjacent to the Cosmetology Salon and Day Spa. This certification program provides training to students who are primarily looking for employment in salon and spa-type settings. Advanced Massage Therapy The Basic Massage Therapy certificate will also serve as a prerequisite to the 30-credit Advanced Massage Therapy certificate program, which continues the student?s education in specialized massage techniques, including Reflexology, Shiatsu, MyoFascial Release, Energy Work, pre/post-event sports massage, and Spa Body Treatments. The 30-credit program also offers advanced anatomy and physiology for massage , business marketing, spa body treatments, clinical field experience, and first aid and safety. Students may also have the opportunity to go off-campus to provide massage therapy services to a number of organizations at workshops and/or special events. This is a part-time program, meeting two late afternoon/ evenings per week, plus Saturdays. Working people, home makers, career changers, or students currently in other programs or disciplines would most likely be able to fit this into their schedules. Massage therapy is a rapidly growing profession that offers a variety of opportunities for the motivated and talented practitioner. Techniques used in therapeutic massage (soft tissue manipulation) and bodywork offer relief for numerous maladies and painful conditions that can result from physical activity, lifestyle choices, mental or emotional stress, or acute injury. Massage therapy is widely recognized as an effective means of reducing the incidence of soft tissue disorders, pain and dysfunction, and as such, has become an important and respected part of the allied health and esthetics industries.
