History from Rockford College is a Campus Bachelor History degree that prepares you for a Liberal Arts career. Historians are always reinterpreting the past, largely because our present day concerns continue to change. History is neither stagnant nor dull. It is not based on memorization, but on interpretation and analysis. Understanding history involves integrating ideas and economics, as well as a consideration of the influence of individuals and social forces. The student of history has to make judgments about a broad range of values and motivations. While our subject matter is the past, the principal goal of the Rockford College history department is to encourage students to read and think critically and to write well in order to more fully interact with their present and future worlds. The history department offers both a Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Science degree . Either degree offers the student a broad background that embodies the liberal arts tradition. Because of a shared perspective, some major and minor requirements are waived for students in the Honors Program in Liberal Arts. Internships in museum work and in other areas can be arranged. Career opportunities Like other majors with a liberal arts focus, the history degree prepares students for a broad range of opportunities in business and in other careers where critical thinking and the ability to express oneself well are valued. Any area of museum work from education to exhibits and curatorial activities is possible for students with a history major. A degree in history leads often to either graduate school or a career in secondary education. The history degree is one of the best preparations for many professional programs, including the study of law. View more details on Rockford College .
