Is Chemistry a good major for Pre-Med track in Rutgers University? I'm attending Rutgers University in the fall, and I have always loved Chemistry and I would love to major in it. My only concern is if it would be a good major for the Pre-Med track?

Chemical and Biochemical Engineering from Rutgers University - New Brunswick is a Campus Bachelor Biochemical Engineering degree that prepares you for a Engineering career. The Undergraduate Program in Chemical and Biochemical Engineering , School of Engineering, Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, is top notch. Our faculty and staff are experienced and dedicated. The educational backgrounds of our faculty are diverse, reflecting pedigrees from Ivy League and Big Ten schools, as well as from prestigious U.S. and international universities. Twenty-percent of our faculty are women. Our core B.S. Degree curriculum is Chemical Engineering and is ABET accredited. There is a well-developed option program available within the core curriculum, such as Biochemical Engineering. The Biochemical Engineering option is one of the most versatile curriculums within the School of Engineering. It prepares students to enter graduate school, medical/dental school and the Chemical and Biochemical Engineering fields generally. Our laboratories are first-rate, modern and provide state-of-the-art equipment in research areas such as fermentation, distillation, pharmaceuticals, process engineering, biomedical engineering and biotechnology. A microcomputer laboratory is available to Department majors only. The Department maintains its own central computing facility, which includes a network of both personal computer and high performance workstations for simulation and visualization applications. State-of-the-art software is available to perform and interpret computationally intensive simulations, and to visualize complex data representations. We offer students a comprehensive Co-Op Program and Department research opportunities. We retain ties with industrial partners to assist students with obtaining Co-Op positions, internships, full-time employment and scholarships. Our very low student-to-faculty ratio allows us to serve the educational needs of our students. Classroom and laboratory teaching and advising are our highest priorities. Program Educational Objectives The undergraduate program educational objectives are: (1) To provide chemical and biochemical engineering graduates with skills and tools to become innovative, competent, contributing engineers in the chemical and biochemical industries; (2) To ensure our graduates have sufficient flexibility and adaptability in the workplace, so that they remain effective engineers, take on new responsibilities, move into new areas of opportunity and assume leadership roles; and (3) To train some of our graduates to continue their professional development and obtain M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in engineering and allied disciplines, including business, medicine and law. Program Outcomes & Teaching Goals Our undergraduate curriculum is designed to ensure that graduates have achieved: (a) an ability to apply knowledge of mathematics, science and engineering; (b) an ability to design and conduct experiments, as well as to analyze and interpret data; (c) an ability to design a system, component, or process to meet desired needs; (d) an ability to function on multidisciplinary teams; (e) an ability to identify, formulate, and solve engineering problems; (f) an understanding of professional and ethical responsibility; (g) an ability to communicate effectively; (h) the broad education necessary to understand the impact of engineering solutions in a global/societal context; (i) a recognition of the need for an ability to engage in lifelong learning; (j) a knowledge of contemporary issues; and (k) an ability to use the techniques, skills, and modern engineering tools necessary for engineering practice.
