Course work involves classroom instruction, hands-on training on late model vehicles, and cooperative work experience with a local dealership or independent repair facility while receiving college credit as well as pay. Students attend classroom instruction for one half of the semester and work in the co-op experience full time during the other half of the semester. The program requires 15 credit hours of general education classes and 53 credit hours of core automotive classes. The general education classes give the student a well rounded educational experience and training for students interested in advancement into management positions or who plan on opening their own business in the future. The 53 hours of core automotive classes give the students a general knowledge of the automobile and its operating systems. A fleet of 30 late model automobiles offers students hands-on experience on the latest technology in the industry. The co-op experience affords students the opportunity to perform skills learned in class and gain valuable work experience, which many prospective employers require.
