The study of accounting is the art of evaluating and analyzing the financial position and operating results of a business or organization through its sales, purchases and overhead. Precise accounting is important ? it helps management make accurate decisions. The accounting department in the Stillman School of Business provides you with a broad skill set, enabling you to excel in the business world. Courses in the accounting concentration expose you to a range of business topics, including: accounting theory; financial reporting requirements; cost measurement issues; budgetary control; auditing; taxes; and information systems. What sets our program apart is that two of our eight major courses emphasize information systems. And the Stillman School is one of only a few schools selected to partner with SAP, the leading ERP company. Our students use the SAP software in their coursework and projects. The program ultimately prepares you for the Certified Public Accountant (CPA), Certified Management Accountant (CMA) and Certified Internal Auditor (CIA) examinations as well as for managerial positions in internal accounting, auditing and controllership. Accounting majors have an unlimited number of career paths. Most graduates opt for a career in public accounting or private industry. However, you can use your degree to branch off into virtually any area of business since accounting is a useful tool in all business pursuits. If you want to pursue graduate study, you can pursue a Master of Science in Professional Accounting , which is geared to help you meet the requirements to sit for the Uniform CPA (Certified Public Accountant) Exam in New Jersey and New York.
