EMC 410 represents the first phase of training in the Emergency Medical Technician career structure. The course covers all techniques of emergency medical care presently within the scope of practice of the EMT-B. The EMT-B course prepares the student to render basic life support at the scene of a medical emergency and during transport to a medical facility. Upon successful completion of the EMT-B course, students will be awarded an EMT-B Course Completion Certificate . This certificate will enable the student to apply for EMT-B Certification. EMT-B Certification is required for employment with an ambulance company and for entrance into the Fire Service or paramedic school. The EMT B course provides the student with a broad foundation of knowledge in anatomy, physiology, pathophysiology, and emergency care procedures. An EMT prepared in this manner can respond to a medical emergency with the expediency and accuracy that is expected and required. Classroom instruction is enriched with additional instruction provided by other health care professionals including physicians, nurses, paramedics, and emergency medical technicians. The EMT-B course provides a strong foundation for students entering other careers involving pre-hospital emergency medical care, including paramedicine, search and rescue, fire fighting, the park service, and law enforcement.
