Psychology from Smith College is a Campus Bachelor Personality Psychology degree that prepares you for a Psychology career. The Psychology Department at Smith is housed in Bass Hall, with state-of-the-art laboratories and work areas. These include: In the basement of Bass Hall, there are general laboratories for Statistics and Experimental Psychology. The Statistics laboratory is equipped with Macintosh computers that are also used in courses such as Cognitive Psychology and Perception. On this floor too are laboratories for Physiological Psychology and Psychophysiology. On the first floor, the Science Library is a richly equipped library for students of Psychology , including an excellent collection of both books and journals. Computerized literature searching is also available. On the second floor of Bass Hall are the laboratories for Cognitive Psychology, Language Acquisition, Comparative Psychology and Psychology of Women. In addition, a well-equipped video analysis facility exists for viewing, transcribing and editing videotapes. Workspace for honors students is also to be found on the second floor. The Chair of the Department, the Academic Assistant and many offices of faculty may be found on the third floor. The third floor of Bass Hall also contains extensive laboratories for research in Social Psychology , Personality, Perception, Psychophysiology, and Child Clinical. On the fourth floor, there are more faculty offices and a comfortable seminar room/lounge named in memory of former student Gale Curtis. Additional Facilities The Science Center Animal Quarters (Sabin-Reed Basement). Several species of small laboratory animals are maintained there, and laboratory space for behavioral experiments adjoins that space. The Smith College Campus School. Students of child development and language acquisition will have the opportunity to observe and conduct approved studies with children in the preschool (Fort Hill), the grade school (Gill Hall) and the Center for Educational Center for Education. The Department also has specialized facilities and Laboratories for multimedia production, computer graphics, web design, and microscopy. Equipment includes: Brightfield, Darkfield, Differential Interference Contrast (DIC), Phase Contrast and Fluorescent Microscope, Laser Scanning Confocal Microscope (LSCM), Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM) and a Transmission Electron Microscope (TEM).
