Teacher Education K-6 from South College - Knoxville is a Campus Certificate Teaching degree that prepares you for a Education career. Post Baccalaureate T.E.A.C.H. Certificate ProgramTeacher Education K-6 The Post-Baccalaureate Teacher Education After College Here (T.EA.C.H.) certificate program of study is designed for those individuals who have earned a Bachelor?s degree from an accredited institution and seek to change careers to become an elementary school teacher. Interested applicants apply through theSouth College admissions office and complete an interview with the Program Director to help them determine their interest and commitment to a rigorous and intense program of study. A transcript analysis is made of the applicant?s baccalaureate coursework to determine completion of relevant general studies courses that are foundational to the licensure program of study. During the interview, the Program Director and applicant discuss program admissions criteria and confirm any deficiencies that must be satisfied. Degreed individuals, who are working full-time, can expect courses to be offered two evenings per week and on Saturdays (of course appropriate out of classroom time must be allotted to complete required assignments which will include both on-campus and off-campus time). Sequenced field experiences arerequired and have to be completed during the time K-6 schools are open and/or during appropriate after school programs. Professional development workshops are provided to enhance the candidate?s learning and professional growth and are scheduled periodically after Saturday classes and the hour before the evening classes. This schedule allows individuals to remain employed prior to EDU 4090A and B, Enhanced Student Teaching. Subsequent to professional education course completion and completion of all program requirements in Assessment Levels I ? III, the candidate is approved to advance to Level IV ? Enhanced Student Teaching and Program Exit. Each candidate receives two student teaching placements for a total of 16 weeks of fulltime student teaching in grades K-3 and 4-6. The first placement ? Placement I - must be successfully completed, with a grade of Pass, to receive approval to advance to the second placement ? Placement II. Placement II must be successfully completed, with a grade of Pass, to be eligible for a scheduled Program Exit Interview. Student teaching placements near the candidate?s residence are attempted but cannot be guaranteed. The Post-Baccalaureate program is designed to be completed in 4 quarters (12-13 months). Candidates are enrolled as full-time students and may qualify for financial aid. No degree is awarded from South College for completion of the Post-Baccalaureate program. The South College School of Education reserves the right to make program changes at any time according to any state mandate(s) that require immediate change. Post-Baccalaureate Program Goal and Candidate Learner Outcomes The goal of the Post-Baccalaureate (T.E.A.C.H.) program is to develop the knowledge, skills, and professional dispositions of candidates to become exceptional beginning instructional leaders. This goal is designed to accomplish the mission of the School of Education and is guided by institutional goals, research, Tennessee Teacher Licensure Standards, National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE) Standards, Interstate New Teacher Assessment and Consortium (INTASC) Standards, and Professional Organizations Standards. Candidates completing the program will accomplish the following learner outcomes: Communicate the central concepts, tools of inquiry, and structures of the discipline(s) and create learning experiences that make these aspects of the discipline accessible and meaningful for learners; Create inclusive learning environments that accommodate individual differences and diverse cultures and communities that allow all students to learn; Apply challenging research-based instructional strategies that promote active engagement by utilizing critical and creative thinking and collaborative problem solving that enhances the learning of all students; Diagnose and respond to students? individual learning needs and make data-driven decisions to improve learning for all students; Design and manage learning environments that promote students? independence as learners in accordance with the principles of human development and behavior; Integrate modern technologies in accordance with research-based curricular instructional and assessment strategies; Collaborate with appropriate stakeholders and support personnel to share responsibility for student growth and development, learning, and wellbeing; Inquire and reflect on their teaching effectiveness, particularly the effects of their choices and actions on others, and make changes to meet the needs of all learners; Plan instruction based upon knowledge of their content areas, cross-disciplinary skills, learners, the community, and pedagogy that supports every student in meeting rigorous learning goals.
