Overview SCC?s Land Surveying/Civil Engineering Technology program is a six-quarter (18-month) program that prepares students for employment opportunities as land surveyors, civil drafters and construction material inspectors. Students are on campus participating in lecture/lab courses during five of those six quarters. The fourth quarter involves an opportunity for students to learn while doing through the College?s Cooperative Education Experience. During this experience, students are paid, helping offset the costs of college. The program is fully accredited by the state of Nebraska and by the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools. Mission The mission of the Land Surveying/Civil Engineering Technology program is to prepare students, through the use of comprehensive courses of instruction and hands-on training, for employment in the field of land surveying, civil computer aided drafting and construction materials inspection. Job Outlook Surveyors, cartographers, photogrammetrists, and surveying and mapping technicians should have favorable job prospects. Overall employment of these occupations is expected to increase by 21 percent through 2016. Increasing demand for fast, accurate and complete geographic information will be the main source of growth for these occupations. An increasing number of firms are interested in geographic information and its applications. Graduates report an average starting wage of $14.35 per hour.
