Program Length: 7 Months Course Times: Evening Courses Diploma Title: Biomedical Technology Credits: 56.5 Biomedical Training Courses The Biomedical Technology program includes training courses that expose students to various electronics based medical devices found in both small clinics and hospitals. Course topics highlight three (3) primary fields of study: Electronic Fundamentals, Human Anatomy and biomedical Instrumentation. Students study electronics at the component level and human biological processes as building blocks for understanding biomedical instrumentation function, operation and troubleshooting Training with Real Biomedical Instruments Biomedical instrumentation and troubleshooting courses emphasize hands-on lab-work in order to provide students with the training and skills needed for the biomedical technician field. Students train in SCIT's Biomedical Lab (medLAB) on actual medical devices, many of which where generously donated by Long Beach Memorial Medical Center. The clinical equipments found in the lab are some of the most commonly used devices in the field. Degree Opportunities Graduates of the Biomedical Technology program may be able to pursue a Bachelor of Science Degree in Electronics Engineering (BSEE) with an emphasis in Biomedical Technology . Courses completed in the Biomedical Technology program are transferable to the Electronics Engineering program in SCIT's School of Engineering. A degree in the Electronics Engineering field may reduce the minimum required field experience hours to obtain a Certified biomedical Equipment Technician (CBET) certification from the Association for the Advancement of Medical Instrumentation (AAMI)Association for the Advancement of Medical Instrumentation (AAMI).
