Criminology and Criminal Justice from Southern Illinois University Carbondale is a Campus Bachelor Criminal Justice degree that prepares you for a Legal career. We offer both a Bachelor of Arts degree and an undergraduate minor in Criminology and Criminal Justice. The BA degree is the preferred degree for many positions in criminal justice, including various jobs in crime prevention, policing, court administration, institutional and community corrections. Our curriculum includes the requisite core education required throughout criminal justice as well as many options from which students may choose Lincoln Memorialsubstantive courses in career areas that interest them most. The BA degree requires a minor, and we encourage students to choose among many interesting options at SIUC that can help to provide supplemental expertise and distinguish them. In addition to our regular course offerings, we provide courses that enable you to explore special topics and current issues in more depth. Look for these on the schedule each semester. We also offer internships with criminal justice agencies and research experiences. For the most effective college experience, CCJ students should aim to participate in activities outside the classroom too. We recommend service activities that help the community and are looked upon favorably by prospective employers. Both the Criminal Justice Student Organization, a RSO sponsored by the Department, and the Student Volunteerism and Community Service- Learning Office in the Student Center provide valuable opportunities.Also be sure to attend when we offer special lectures or conferences.
