The finance curriculum offers three areas of specialization to meet the varied interests of students: (1) financial management, (2) financial institutions and (3) investments. The financial management program provides the background for a career in the financial operations of business firms and public institutions. The financial institutions specialization is designed for those interested in the operations of financial intermediaries and financial markets. The investments concentration is designed for those interested in Security Analysis and Portfolio Management. Certain courses may require the purchase of additional materials. Finance majors must maintain a cumulative 2.00 grade point average in Finance prefix (FIN) courses taken at SIUC excluding Finance 200, 270, 310 and 323 in addition to meeting all of the College of Business' retention and graduation requirements. Finance majors who fail for two consecutive semesters to maintain the 2.00 cumulative grade point average in Finance prefix courses will be required to drop Finance as their major. In addition, students must earn a minimum grade of C in each of the courses taken at SIUC to satisfy their requirements for a Finance major.
