Radio Television Audio Arts from Southern Illinois University Carbondale is a Campus Bachelor Communication Technologies degree that prepares you for a Communications career. The AUDIO ARTS Specialization Students in Audio Arts develop their creative talents inside learning environments that unify critical listening and recording fundamentals from a wide variety of professional, artistic and historical viewpoints. Courses in the Audio Arts range from the commercial audio industries, sound and moving image and special topics courses in sound art and documentary radio. With the aid of our talented faculty, students learn to create and exhibit their creative projects on today's technology by using our professional studios and computer labs. Audio Arts introduces students to principles and processes that help a student evolve from basic listening skills toward the crafting of sound into professional projects and artistic expressions. Students gain experience in specific applications related to commercial and artistic opportunities in sound, as well as how sound integrates with various visual and immersive technologies on the Web and in live performance spaces. Students learn the various ways to understand audio through recording engineering, Midi composition, Foley and soundscapes, commercial production and storytelling. Real world experience is the foci of the audio arts program, with students having access to industry professionals in music and radio, international sound/new media artists, and audio scholars. Students also have access to many of the student organizations dedicated to the media arts such as Digital Dog, M.U.S.I.C. and WIDB as well as college-based internships with WSIU FM and WSIU TV. Students are encouraged to participate in our regional and national internships located in Nashville, Chicago, New York, Washington DC and Los Angeles.
