Nursing from Spokane Community College is a Campus Associate Registered Nurse degree that prepares you for a Nursing career. Program Description The AAS degree program prepares graduates for entry level nursing practice in a variety of health care settings. The key components of professionalism, collaboration, clinical decision making, caring and management of care provide the framework for graduate outcomes. After the first quarter, students are eligible to take the Washington State exam for the Nursing Assistant Certified (NAC). After completion of the second quarter, students are eligible for employment as Nurse Technicians. After the completion of the first four quarters of the Nursing program, students have the option of obtaining an LPN certificate and taking the NCLEX-PN ? licensure examination. After successful completion of seven quarters students graduate with an AAS degree and may take the NCLEX-RN? licensure examination. Program Goals Upon completion of the Nursing Program, students should exhibit the following behaviors: Professionalism: Demonstrate accountability and integrity while utilizing legal standards and ethical values that govern professional nursing practice. Collaboration: Coordinate care with patient, significant support systems and other members of the health care team to achieve optimal patient and organizational outcomes. Clinical Decision Making: Utilize best current evidence and clinical judgment to ensure patient, staff and system safety in a variety of health care settings. Caring: Create partnerships with the patient as the source of control in providing compassionate care based on respect for patient preferences, values, and needs. Management of Care: Prioritize care based on principles of delegation supervision, resource management, and information technology for patients in a variety of settings. Career Opportunities LPN's and RN's are employed in a variety of settings including: hospitals, extended care centers, home health care agencies or physician's offices. LPN's work under the direct supervision of the physician and/or RN. New technologies are continually developing in the health care field offering new and challenging career opportunities.
