Anthropology from Stony Brook University is a Campus Master Anthropology degree that prepares you for a Science career. Masters Program in Anthropology The Department of Anthropology offers a graduate program leading to the M.A. degree . Candidates may study toward a master's in anthropology with a concentration in archaeology, cultural anthropology , or physical anthropology. Admission and degree requirements are the same but the course of study differs. The M.A. Program in Anthropology is designed for students who wish to pursue anthropological training for careers in education or for those whose undergraduate training did not prepare them for doctoral level work in Anthropology. Full-time or part-time attendance is possible. MA students are not eligible for Anthropology Teaching or Graduate assistantships or tuition scholarships. This program is independent from the doctoral program (IDPAS). Students are expected to choose a specialization in archaeology, cultural anthropology or physical anthropology at the time of admission, and will be assigned an advisor who will work with them to tailor an individualized plan of study. After the completion of 15 credits of graduate course work, the student forms a guidance committee consisting of three faculty members (at least two of whom must be a member of the Anthropology Department). The committee will guide the student through the preparation of a thesis proposal and the completion of the thesis leading to the M.A. Because there is a specialized research component to the MA program, interested persons should contact the individual faculty with whom they wish to study before applying.
