The mission of this ASE (Automotive Service Excellence) certified program is to prepare students for entry-level employment as automotive technicians . The program provides classroom instruction and hands-on training on the automotive systems and their functions. The eight areas of ASE certification are taught through theory, application and co-op opportunities. Students learn the disassembly, repair and reassembly of components of fuel systems, alternators, starters, ignition systems, engines, front ends, transmissions, and brake systems. They also get advanced training which includes learning to troubleshoot and diagnose malfunctions and repair or replace defective parts to restore the vehicle to proper operating condition. The automotive curriculum also includes the development of attitudes and work habits that will satisfy the needs of the automotive industry with regard to customer service. Upon completion, students are eligible to sit for the ASE Certification Exam (Automotive Service Excellence). CAREER OPPORTUNITIES The need for automotive service technicians is expected to increase through the year 2008, due to the expansion of the driving age population, the number of households with multiple motor vehicles and state and local EPA program requirements. The growing complexity of automotive technology also necessitates the demand for highly trained mechanics and technicians . Jobs are available in dealerships, independent service shops, store associated shops, specialty service shops, and fleet service and maintenance.
