The Biomedical Technology Program's mission is to provide the technical instruction and skill development to enable students to become successful in the allied health field or biotechnology. Students will learn laboratory procedures fundamental to biomedical research including micropipetting, recombinant DNA, and cell culture. The curriculum includes lecture, laboratory activities, student presentations, and guest speakers. Topics include: scientific research, anatomy and physiology, clinical laboratory skills, cardiac monitoring, basic pharmacology, medical terminology, communication, medical math, and workplace skills. During the last trimester, students will have clinical opportunities available through biotechnology and healthcare companies. Each student's clinical experience will feature one or more of the following areas from the program: lab/research, cardiac monitoring, computer/information technology, and pharmacy. With some additional self-study, students may choose to pursue optional certification in cardiac monitoring or pharmacy.
