This certificate is designed to prepare students for entry-level positions as medical coders in the health care industry. The content combines health information knowledge with computer technology and management skills to provide not only state-of-the-art training but also a career path and an academic path to higher level positions. Students who complete this certificate will find employment in hospitals, insurance companies, government agencies, skilled nursing facilities, long-term facilities, and ambulatory care facilities. Students who successfully complete this certificate program are eligible to take the Certified Coding Specialist-Physician Based (CCS-P) and the Certified Coding Specialist (CCS) examinations administered by AHIMA. Students must complete the prerequisite certificate courses with a grade of C or better to be accepted into the core program. Students must complete the program sequence and graduate within three years.
