Studio Art Ceramics from The University of Alabama is a Campus Master Ceramic degree that prepares you for a Art and Design career. The program in Ceramics offers students a range of courses dealing with all aspects of the medium. The Ceramics area is a large, fully equipped facility with a complete inventory of clay and glaze materials. Ceramics has interior work space of 7,700 square feet with graduate studio space available. There is also a large exterior kiln yard with two Raku kilns, a Salt kiln, a small Anagama, and a high temperature sawdust fired kiln. We have a Soldner mixer and three pug mills as well as a hammer mill for the preparation of clay. There are fourteen kick and electric potter's wheels, slab roller, ball mills, blunger for slip mixing, three gas kilns, five electric kilns as well as materials for experimental kiln construction. There is a glaze room that is fully stocked for the formulation of glazes in any temperature range. Instruction is offered in all forming techniques, glaze calculations, kiln construction, and kiln-firings. Students are encouraged to experiment with the medium and to explore new processes.
