International Studies from Albion College is a Campus Bachelor International studies degree that prepares you for a Science career. Major Requirements A minimum of EIGHT units as follows: 1) Three foundational courses: a) INTN 130: Introduction to International Studies b) Two additional foundational courses (200-level or higher), taken in two different departments. 2) Elective courses constituting a curricular focus, taken in at least two different departments. a) Area Studies --At least three units of course work in one of the following areas: Europe, Africa, Asia or Latin America. Depending on course availability, students may pursue other area studies tracks with the prior approval of the International Studies Major Advisory Committee. OR b) Transnational Studies --At least four units of course work in one of the following areas: international environmental studies , international gender studies, or international politics and society. Depending on course availability, students may pursue other transnational studies tracks with the prior approval of the International Studies Major Advisory Committee. 3) INTN 370: International Studies in Theory and Practice (Note: this course is mandatory for students whose catalog of entry is 2005-06. Students whose catalog of entry is 2002/03, 2003/04, or 2004/05 may elect to satisfy this requirement with a capstone project. See the IS adviser for details) 4) Proof of foreign language competence equivalent to 2 years of college-level language study. For students pursuing an area studies track, the language must be related to the area of study. 5) At least one semester abroad must be completed in an off-campus study program approved for Albion College credit. For students pursuing an area studiestrack, the off-campus program must be related to the area of study. In special circumstances, students may petition the International Studies Program Committee to fulfill this requirement through U.S.-based off-campus study programs with significant international content. 6) Additional stipulations: a) Course work must include at least two courses taken at the 300-level or above. b) No more than two units of 100-level work may be counted toward the major. c) Up to three units of course work may be taken abroad.
