Allegheny's physics majors develop strong backgrounds in theoretical, experimental and applied physics, as well as a thorough understanding of the scientific method, and an appreciation of the way the natural universe works. * Majors complete at least 12 semester hours in mathematics and at least 38 semester hours in physics (typically 9-10 courses) including Introductory Physics I and II (Fundamentals of Physics I and II may be substituted as the first two courses); Introductory Modern Physics; Mechanics of Particles; Analog Electric Circuits and Devices; Electric and Magnetic Fields; at least one physics elective; a Junior Seminar; Advanced Laboratory; and Senior Project. * Depending on a student's plans (graduate school, medical school, etc.), the department recommends specific electives in physics and other sciences. * Double and student-designed majors are encouraged.
