The Massage Therapy Certificate program is designed to prepare the graduate for employment in the massage therapy field as a Registered Massage Practitioner. A student who has earned 60 credits in higher education prior to entering the program is eligible to apply for certification as a Certified Massage Therapist upon completion of the program. LENGTH A minimum of five semesters, including one summer semester. The program begins in the fall semester. OCCUPATIONAL GOALS Registered Massage Practitioner. Opportunities for employment include private practice, health spas, fitness facilities, hotels/resorts, and athletic events. Registered practitioners may not practice in health facilities. PROGRAM The Massage Therapy program incorporates classroom and clinical fieldwork in a comprehensive educational experience. The program emphasizes Swedish massage , deep tissue work, and myofascial stretching. The clinical experience provides an opportunity to apply these techniques in a variety of settings. Enrollment in the program is limited. Upon completion of the program, students will be prepared to write the National Certification Board for Therapeutic Massage and Bodywork (NCBTMB) national certification exam or the Maryland State licensure exam and apply for registration through the Maryland Board of Chiropractic Examiners.
