From global positioning technology that can track the location of a vehicle to sub-micron, integrated circuit (IC) chips that power today's wireless technologies, electrical engineers are responsible for some of the most exciting technological breakthroughs. The objectives of the BSEE program are: (1) to develop a student's discipline and expertise to a sufficient degree to be a productive, entry-level electrical engineer within industry and (2) to prepare a student academically for entry into the Master of Science in Electrical Engineering (MSEE) program. The BSEE program at Colorado Technical University is accredited by the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET). What skills can I learn? Students who successfully complete the BSEE degree program should be able to: Apply the knowledge of mathematics, science and engineering to identify, formulate and solve engineering problems. Design and conduct experiments, as well as analyze and interpret data. Design a system, component or process to meet desired needs within the context of digital systems, electronics systems and communication systems. Assess the impact of engineering solutions in a global and societal context. Use the techniques, skills and modern engineering tools necessary for current engineering practice. CTU uses PSpice design software by Cadence in the following classes to model and simulate electronic circuits: EE321 Circuit Analysis I, EE331 Circuit Analysis II, EE375 Electronic Design I, EE395 Electronic Design II, EE415 Advanced Electronic Design, and EE425 CMOS Design. While not required, PSpice is often used to validate circuits before building them in the senior capstone design projects EE490 Product Design I and EE491 Product Design II. Cadence is a registered trademark of Cadence Design Systems, Inc., 2655 Seely Avenue, San Jose, CA 95134. What are some possible career opportunities? Today, many companies are involved in the entire spectrum of product and system design, testing and support. On the commercial side, some companies employ electrical engineers to design, improve and test integrated circuit products ("chips"), while other companies may employ electrical engineers for product support, with a heavy customer focus. On the government contractor side, local firms need electrical engineers to design the command, control, communications , computer, intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance (C4ISR) systems that are the backbone of national defense.
