Divinity Master from Covenant Theological Seminary details

Program Format: Campus Program Level: Master

Divinity from Covenant Theological Seminary is a Campus Master Religious Studies degree that prepares you for a Liberal Arts career. Since its founding, Covenant Seminary has focused on training pastors to lead God's people as they fulfill the calling of the Church to the world. The Master of Divinity (MDiv) program uniquely grounds students in the disciplines required for pastoral ministry while engaging the mind through strong academics. This prepares them for a lifetime of ministry. The MDiv offers students the most vocational opportunities and is designed as either a three-or four-year program. Distinctives of the MDiv Covenant Seminary's MDiv program prepares students to serve in a wide variety of ministerial settings?from church planting to overseas missions?with the primary focus on training pastors to lead God's people. This training takes place on a number of different levels as we seek as an institution to embody the message of the Gospel in our relationships and community. Ministry Tracks The MDiv program offers two ministry tracks in order to prepare students for the ministry God has called them to pursue. The Pastoral Ministry Track is specifically designed to prepare men for ordained ministry within the Church. This track includes required courses in homiletics and other areas of practical theology essential for traditional or non-traditional pastoral ministry . The Specialized Ministry Track is designed to prepare men and women for ministry that does not necessarily require ordination, such as educational ministries, campus ministry, counseling, teaching, research, or writing, as well as the pursuit of advanced study. This track prescribes practical theology electives (such as educational ministries, counseling, and some courses in contempo-rary culture and world mission) in place of preaching and selected practical theology courses. Integrated Curriculum Training for ministry involves more than just academics. The MDiv curriculum provides opportunities for students to integrate material learned in the classroom with community and church activities. Covenant Groups, the small-group ministry of Covenant Seminary led by professors, involves students gathering on a weekly basis during the academic year to discuss course material or other issues of interest to the students. Regular chapel services provide opportunities for students to integrate their pastoral training with spiritual application. Various events sponsored through the Francis A. Schaeffer Institute encourage students to explore ways in which to integrate classroom learning with the ebb and flow of cultural attitudes. Field Education To incorporate practical ministry experience into a student's study, all MDiv students are required to complete 300 hours of field education prior to graduation. Through this requirement, the Seminary seeks to help students: Grow in walking with God and leading God's people Integrate learning in the classroom with the practice of ministry Confirm or clarify their gifts for and calling to ministry Identify ministry-related strengths and struggles Placement Covenant Seminary provides placement resources for graduating students in the MDiv program. We have been able to prepare students for ministry service in the PCA and other denominations in a wide variety of ministries, from senior/solo pastorates, assistant/ associate pastorates, and youth ministry to church planting, campus ministry, and missions. Over the past five years, we have had the privilege of seeing 99 percent of our faculty-recommended graduates placed in ministry positions. View more details on Covenant Theological Seminary .
