Nurse Educator from Florida State University is a Campus Master Registered Nurse degree that prepares you for a Nursing career. The Role With the Nurse Educator role being a recognized and valid part of nursing practice, there is a great need for nurses with strong clinical skills to become academically prepared to educate our future nurses. Nurse Educators can practice as faculty in schools/colleges of nursing, educators in healthcare facilities, patient educators, community educators, or entrepreneurs. The Content The Nursing Education sequence is designed to prepare well-qualified students to become well-prepared nursing educators. We strive to take the myth out of teaching and to approach the Teaching-Learning process in a systematic, orderly fashion. Program content focuses on the theoretical foundations of nursing education, tests and measurements, cultural diversity, ethics, curriculum development, implementation and evaluation, clinical teaching and evaluation, and strategies needed for teaching any group in any setting. Emphasis is on the teacher-learner process, curriculum development, and course implementation and evaluation in both the classroom and clinical areas. Practice teaching assures opportunities for application of all concepts throughout the program in a variety of settings. Clinical experiences are designed to meet individual learning needs in the area that the student wishes to practice. With the classroom and clinical experiences, the graduate from the Nurse Educator track will meet the competencies published by the Southern Regional Education Board (SREB) and the National League of Nursing (NLN). The Opportunity At no other time in history have there been so many options for non-traditional students to pursue nursing education. The Florida State University's online MSN Nurse Educator program is designed especially to allow the working nurse to integrate school into an already busy lifestyle. A flexible schedule, coupled with the ability to arrange convenient clinical placements, make distance learning the option of choice for many professionals interested in expanding their employment potential. In this time of nursing shortages the number of nursing faculty is also declining. At an average age of 56.6 even more nursing faculty will soon be retiring. There is a great need for today's nurses to become prepared to educate our future nurses. Joining our years of experience in web-based Nursing education with your years of nursing practice, we have created a Master's degree program that caters to the working RN interested in broadening his or her level of career opportunity. Nurse Educators are qualified to function as faculty in schools of nursing, educators in healthcare facilities, patient educators, community educators, or entrepreneurs.
