Doctor's degree Cellular Molecular Biology and Physiology from Georgia State University is a Campus Ph.D Physiology degree that prepares you for a Science career. Faculty in the Cellular Molecular Biology and Physiology (CMBP) research group at Georgia State University share a common interest in the function and regulation of eukaryotic cells and, in turn, how cellular function relates to development and physiology of the animal. Research directed by the CBP faculty use cellular , molecular, genetic, and physiological approaches to understand how eukaryotic cells are organized how they communicate with each other and respond to internal and external signals. Research in the CBP group is enhanced by the state of the art Biological Imaging Core Facility managed by a Microscopy Society of America Certified Electron Microscopy Technologist. Our facility includes a Zeiss LSM 510 laser scanning confocal microscope equipped with helium/neon, argon ion and Enterprise UV lasers, allowing for a wide range of possibilities when selecting fluorochromes. A JEOL 100CXII transmission electron microscope along with RMC ultra- and cryo-ultramicrotomy instruments and ancillary equipment are available to fill TEM needs. Scanning electron microscopes include LEO s420 and 1450vp instruments. The 1450vp system has a variable pressure chamber for low vacuum work, as well as backscattered electron and X-ray microanalysis capabilities. Other specialized imaging equipment is also available to meet specific research requirements. Cell Biology and Cell Physiology are integrated disciplines and several of the CBP faculty have joint appointments in the Molecular Genetics and Biochemistry and in Neurobiology groups.
