Graduate Philosophy The Patty Hanks Shelton School of Nursing functions within the structure of an educational consortium consisting of Abilene Christian University, Hardin-Simmons University, and McMurry University. The faculty accepts the underlying Philosophy and Objectives of the consortium universities that young men and women be educationally prepared in a manner that promotes the development of intellectual, cultural, moral and religious values. With these strengths to draw upon, the faculty expect that graduates from these universities will assume participating roles in a society which responds to the rapidly changing and increasingly complex needs of people. The faculty believes the role of private, church related universities is to provide the scientific and liberal arts foundations, and the moral and religious values needed for individuals seeking intellectual, spiritual, cultural, and economic self-improvement. The faculty at the School of Nursing believe that nurses are obligated to participate in the interdisciplinary effort to provide high quality health care that is equally accessible to all members of society. Nurses, individually and collectively, have an obligation to participate in the comprehensive planning and development of the health care system recognizing that individuals are ultimately responsible for their own health care. The aim of the graduate educational program at PHSSN is to prepare students for advanced roles and professional nursing . These students will satisfactorily complete the requirements for graduation from ACU or HSU with the Master's of Science in Nursing degree . The MSN graduate will assume leadership roles in diverse positions: Family Nurse Practitioner, administrator, or patient care manager.
