Program Description The physics program at HBU provides a firm foundation in the theoretical and experimental aspects of physics. In addition, the physics program offers courses for non-science majors: Physics for the Liberal Arts Mind; Astronomy and the Universe; Physics of Sound; and Science and Religion (with Physics and Christianity as examples). The faculty is deeply committed to teaching and research. One-on-one interaction of students with faculty members is the norm. Research opportunities with faculty are available to undergraduates. Currently, faculty is involved in theoretical, experimental, and applied physics research. Areas of research include biophysics, supersymmetry, and methods of teaching physics. Students are also encouraged to participate in summer internships and research programs at other universities and research institutions. Advantages and Opportunities Students will enjoy the small classes and one-on-one interaction with the physics faculty. The research interests of the physics faculty provide research opportunities for undergraduates. Houston Baptist University has a chapter of the Society of Physics Students. After Graduation Students with a Bachelor of Science degree in physics go on to graduate school, and to careers in industry, medicine, law, education, computer science, mathematics, engineering, and in nontraditional areas such as finance and economics.
