Journalism Bachelor from Ithaca College details

Program Format: Campus Program Level: Bachelor

Journalism from Ithaca College is a Campus Bachelor Journalism degree that prepares you for a Communications career. As a journalism major, you'll receive intensive instruction in news reporting right from the start -- our introductory journalism course emphasizes news judgment, basic reporting techniques, and mastery of the Associated Press approach to writing. From there you will dig deeper into the rights and responsibilities that go along with this profession. For example, our news editing course will not only teach you how to edit and lay out copy; it will also introduce you to the legal and ethical problems that editors confront every working day. Our cutting-edge curriculum also prepares you for the world of media convergence. In your journalism classes you'll explore the subtle differences between reporting for broadcast, digital, and print media while building skills in all three disciplines. You'll also be required to minor in a second area and acquire proficiency in a second language. But classroom experience is only half the story. By volunteering for the news operations at the television and radio stations and the student newspaper, you can apply what you learn right on campus. There are also internship opportunities in East Coast cities including Boston, New York, and Washington; in Los Angeles; and even at the BBC in London (if you choose to study abroad at the College's London Center). Our multidisciplinary approach creates a broad range of options for you upon graduation. Our alumni have found work in television and radio news, as reporters for publications as diverse as the Chronicle of Higher Education, the Los Angeles Times, and the Prague Post, and with Internet news organizations. Others have gone on to graduate school in law, economics, history, and business. Our emphasis on fundamental skills -- research, critical thinking, the ability to explain information clearly and concisely under intense deadline pressure -- will serve you well wherever your career path leads.
