Computed Tomography from Kennebec Valley Community College is a Campus Certificate Radiology degree that prepares you for a Healthcare career. DESCRIPTION The Computed Tomography program is designed to provide the working radiologic technologist with the theoretical background and documented clinical experience necessary to sit for the Computed Tomography registry examination offered by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT). The program is based on the curriculum suggested by the American Society for Radiologic Technologists (ASRT) and the clinical standards required by the ARRT. The didactic component of curriculum will be delivered on-line using Web CT/Blackboard. Ideally, students should have off-campus Internet access in order to complete online course activities. A validated browser is required and is a browser that is compatible with WebCT. WebCT Campus can automatically check whether your browser is validated for use with WebCT. The course also requires Microsoft Word for homework submissions. Students will be required to attend two Saturdays to complete required laboratory instruction. Coursework is offered in two semesters. PROGRAM MISSION The mission of the Radiologic Technology program at KVCC is to educate and train qualified personnel to provide direct service to patients using radiation, to produce the required image needed for medical diagnosis from an integral perspective. We also offer students experiences in the most recent imaging advancements and the new technological modalities in the production of images in the medical field. EDUCATIONAL OUTCOMES Upon successful completion of the Advanced Certificate in Computed Tomography program, the graduate is expected to: 1. Be eligible to sit for the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) advanced certification examination in Computed Tomography. 2. Demonstrate expertise and proficiency in a variety of CT procedures by applying didactic course theory to the actual practice of technical skills at a specified level of competency. 3. Demonstrate developed and practiced professional work habits and appropriate interpersonal relationships with patients, families, and other members of the healthcare community. 4. Demonstrate expertise in the application of CT principles, instrumentation, and in collaboration with the Radiologist, select appropriate protocol based on patient diagnosis. 5. Be capable of critical thinking and problem solving within his/her scope of professional practice. 6. Participate in activities that foster professional growth as life-long learners.
