Modern Languages from Manhattan College is a Campus Bachelor Language degree that prepares you for a Liberal Arts career. Modern Languages Modern Languages offers foundation courses in Arabic, Chinese, French, German, Italian, Japenese and Spanish. Latin and Russian are offered in cooperation with Lehman College at Lehman College's campus. Students enrolled in those courses will follow Lehman College's catalog and schedule. The department offers majors in French and Spanish. Language courses are oriented toward the achievement of oral and written proficiency. The goals of the department of Modern Languages are to develop in the students the ability to understand, speak, read, and write in a second language effectively; to provide better understanding of other cultures and other modes of expression and thought and hence broaden international understanding in general; to prepare students for graduate studies and careers in education, international business, communication, government, social services, and related fields. Entering students who continue language study begun elsewhere are placed in an appropriate language course on the basis of their academic record (GPA, SAT, AP, rank, grades), number of years of language study, and intended major. The Department of Modern Foreign Languages offers courses in the following programs: Modern Languages Literature and Culture International Studies Global Business Studies Teacher Certification in Modern Languages.
