Bioinformatics from Medical College of Wisconsin is a Campus Master Bioinformatics degree that prepares you for a Science career. In 2001, the Bioinformatics Graduate Program was created by joining the disciplinary strengths found in the Departments of Mathematics, Statistics, Computer Science, Biological Sciences, Electrical Engineering and Biomedical Engineering at Marquette University in conjunction with the bioinformatics and biomedical research conducted at the Medical College of Wisconsin . DEGREE OFFERED: Master of Science in Bioinformatics The program prepares students for a multidisciplinary career in the biomedical sciences using mathematics, statistics, and computer science. It is designed to provide students quantitative tools for analyzing data and problems associated with molecular, cellular, physiological, and particularly, genetic systems. Students may select courses from a list of approved courses offered by the following departments at Marquette: Mathematics, Statistics, and Computer Science; Biology; Biomedical Engineering; and Electrical and Computer Engineering. In addition, courses are offered by the Department of Physiology, Bioinformatics , and the Division of Biostatistics at the Medical College of Wisconsin. A set of core bioinformatics courses are also required. Students may pursue the degree on a full-time or part-time basis. Many courses are offered in the evening or on weekends. This program is managed by the Bioinformatics Co-Directors working with a committee composed of faculty from the Medical College of Wisconsin and Marquette University. This committee is responsible for admitting students to the program, establishing degree requirements and coordinating course offerings. Students will receive theory and technique classroom training in such areas as physiological genetics, genomic analysis, artificial intelligence, and digital image processing and analysis. The program will also provide the opportunity for students to apply what they learn in a research setting. Each student is assigned an academic advisor and a program mentor to enhance his or her experience.
