All general requirements for admission to the graduate school of Mississippi College must be met. 2. Must possess a bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with a minimum of eighteen semester hours of work in mathematics , the suitability of courses to be determined by the graduate faculty. 3. GRE Requirement: A combined Score of 850 on the verbal and quantitative sections of the GRE or a score of at least 450 on either section and a score of 2.5 on the Writing Assessment of the GRE General Examination is required. A successful score on the Praxis can also be considered in lieu of taking the GRE. Requirements of the Program 1. A minimum of 30 semester hours of graduate work must be completed. 2. MAT 5426 Advanced Calculus 3. At least 15 semester hours of the course work must be 6500-level including MAT 6520 Selected Topics from Higher Algebra MAT 6526 Real Analysis. 4. A thesis may be substituted for 6 semester hours of course work. A thesis is strongly recommended for students anticipating entering a doctoral program. 5. In their last semester of enrollment, candidates for the MS must take an oral comprehensive examination based upon course work used to satisfy degree requirements. If applicable, the oral exam will also include a defense of the thesis. If judged unsatisfactory, all or part of the oral examination may be retaken once in the following semester or summer term.
