In addition to learning about the past, studying history also helps train the mind to think analytically and creatively about human behavior and the world around us. In a 1789 letter to James Madison, Thomas Jefferson cautioned: \\\"And say, finally, whether peace is best preserved by giving energy to the government or information to the people.
