The Norwalk Community College Medical Assistant Certificate Program is accredited by the Commission of Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (www.caahep.org), upon the recommendation of the The Curriculum Review Board of the American Association of Medical Assistants Endowment (AAMAE). Graduates of NCC Medical Assistant Certificate Program are eligible to take the Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) certification examination administered by the AAMA (American Association of Medical Assistants) Certifying Board and is recognized by the National Board of Medical Examiners. The Medical Assistant course work can be applied to an Associate?s Degree in Medical Office Management. PROGRAM OUTCOMES Upon successful completion of all program requirements, graduates will be able to: 1. Function as competent entry-level medical assistants in the cognitive (knowledge), psychomotor (skills), and affective (behavior) learning domains. 2. Function as multi-skilled health workers in ambulatory settings such as medical offices and clinics. 3. Perform vital signs, exam room preparation, patient data collection, simple dressing changes, lab tests, phlebotomy, medication administration and EKG?s. 4. Carry out front office duties such as reception, insurance monitoring, record maintenance and bookkeeping. 5. Communicate effectively with patients and colleagues using appropriate knowledge of psychology. 6. Demonstrate appropriate interpersonal communication skills using both the written and spoken word. 7. Assist in patient education related to pharmacology, disease and nutrition. 8.
