PROGRAM OVERVIEW The Middle Childhood Education program (Grades 4-9) is nationally recognized by the National Middle School Association (NMSA), is approved by the Ohio Department of Education and is accredited by the National Council for the Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE). Each instructor in ODU?s Education program has been a classroom teacher at some point in his or her life ? bringing real-world experience to the classroom. KEY POINTS ABOUT THE ART MAJOR At least 460 hours in hands-on clinical and field-based experiences in diverse classroom settings. Graduates of the Education Division pass the National PRAXIS II certification exam at a rate of 93 percent to 100 percent. Our programs prepare competent, effective, caring teacher-leaders. WHY ODU? At ODU, Education majors are provided the opportunities to participate in at least 460 hours of field-based experiences in diverse classroom settings. ODU Education majors have hands-on experience with the latest educational technologies including software applications to prepare exciting classroom presentations to help engage students in the learning process. CAREER POSSIBILITIES Students benefit from the advantage of career assistance and guidance through the Career Development Center. An annual Education Interview Day is hosted by Career Development, where area school districts are invited to campus to interview graduating Education majors for teaching positions in their district. Our graduates are teaching in public and private schools throughout the state of Ohio and across the country. As students enter M.Ed programs, many choose to return to Ohio Dominican to continue their graduate education. ON CAMPUS OPPORTUNITIES ODU students with a 3.0 GPA or better are invited to become members of an international honor society in Education , Kappa Delta Pi, that represents all facets of the education profession.
