Students practice in a variety of settings where primary care is delivered. Health promotion, illness prevention, health maintenance, detection of alterations in health status, and restoration of health are essential areas of study. The focus of this concentration are advanced nursing practice evidenced based strategies, research, and leadership. The nurse acquires skills that allow for detection and management of acute self limiting conditions, selected crisis situations, chronic stable conditions and conditions with multisystem consequences. The Family Nurse Practitioner curriculum sequence varies according to semester of entrance and whether the student is in full- or part-time study. All courses are offered on the Pleasantville and New York City campuses. Graduation from the program provides eligibility for certification by the State of New York as a Family Nurse Practitioner and the ability to take the national certification exam.
