The Art Program of the Fine Arts Department at Roanoke College seeks to introduce its students to a broad knowledge of the visual arts , their role in society, and their interconnections with other disciplines within the arts, humanities, and sciences. We welcome students wishing to investigate the visual arts as a part of their liberal arts education or as a basis for professional study. For Art Majors and Art Minors, we seek to balance general knowledge with specialized expertise in the student\\\'s selected area of emphasis. Furthermore, we wish to foster clear thinking, communication, and the ability to make informed aesthetic judgments. The art faculty is committed to the college\\\'s overall purpose in educating its students in high standards of creativity and scholarship. The Art Program is designed to enable art students to integrate their intellectual, emotional, and physical capabilities in the practice of a selected studio area and in the history of art. Roanoke College offers both a major and minor in art . Majors are also required to focus in one of the following disciplines during their course of study: ceramics, drawing, graphic design, painting, photography, printmaking, and sculpture. Employment and Graduate Study Outcomes Ninety-five percent of Roanoke College seniors get jobs or pursue graduate school within six months of graduation. Art Majors have gone on to pursue opportunities and careers in education (elementary, secondary, and college), public art , graphic design, advertising sales, Americorps, youth ministry, and art galleries.
