Emergency Medical Technician Basic from Santa Fe Community College - Gainesville is a Campus Certificate Medical Emergency degree that prepares you for a Healthcare career. The Emergency Medical Technician - Basic (EMT-B) Program at Santa Fe College (SFC) is a one-semester credit/certificate program, offered during the Fall, Spring and Summer terms. An EMT-B is a professional who delivers basic life support care. This program consists of classroom, lab, hospital emergency department clinical, and ambulance rescue clinical components. Within 14-days of successful completion of all components of the EMT-B program, the student will be issued a Certificate of Competition. The student is then eligible to take the State of Florida EMT and/or the National Registry Certification Examination. This course meets the requirements of the current 1994 US DOT National Standard Curriculum for EMT-Basic. The course presents the fundamentals of emergency medical care and for performing basic life support procedures. Components include patient assessment, airway management, medical and trauma emergencies, childbirth, patient assisted medications, behavioral emergencies and intervention, hazardous material awareness, and a mandatory 4 hour section on HIV/AIDS (FS401.2701.5c) and 2 hours of adult and pediatric trauma scorecard methodologies (FS401.2701.5b). Successful completion of this course and its co-requisites will enable the student to become eligible to take the State and/or National Registry Certification Examination.
