Studio projects allow students to identify, research, and solve design issues. The mission of the Interior Design program is to provide a comprehensive educational experience with pathways leading to professional placement in the interiors industry. The two-tiered curriculum consists of an Associate in Applied Science (AAS) in Interior Design that provides foundational knowledge and skills. Program Competencies: Use principles of design and basic architectural drafting practice to prepare a set of residential drawings. Use Computer Aided Drafting (CAD) to prepare a variety of assigned drawings. Use Computer Aided Drafting (CAD) to draft a set of assigned working drawings. Identify and use design principles to develop a room design and explore the purchase and arrangement of home furnishings. Trace the development of furniture and architecture from prehistoric times to the Industrial Revolution. Describe modern development of furniture and architecture from the Industrial Revolution to the present. Develop quick-sketch and presentation type drawings in portfolio format as used by design professionals. Use color theory and principles to create two-dimensional designs . Identify the composition and characteristics of fabrics using fiber, yarn, construction and finishes. Estimate, specify, and schedule installations of flooring, wall and furniture coverings, and window treatments for a residential interior . Use interior design principles to solve assigned studio problems. Prepare presentations including furniture layouts, elevations, material selections and models. Use historical decorative art motifs in design of custom furniture. Produce presentation type drawings and portfolio development techniques used by design professionals.
