You are ready to be the most influential and effective elementary school teacher you can be. Your commitment couldn?t come at a better time. Public and private classrooms across America desperately need educators who are just as concerned about each student?s well-being as they are about test scores. In your study of human development, you'll learn about the cognitive, social, emotional, physical and spiritual development of children and how to nurture the unique gifts your students possess. Your measurement and assessment classes will take you inside the world of testing. You?ll learn how to create effective tests that target each student?s critical thinking abilities, analyze the results of those tests, and retool your testing strategies based on your analysis. In your curriculum classes, you?ll find out how to critically evaluate teaching manuals provided to you by your school administration and by publishers, how to create a curriculum, and how to refine your curricula in a way that can better meet the needs of your students. Your training will conclude with one of four final projects of your choice: Portfolio for the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards(NBPTS): Semester-long compilation of your work to demonstrate your achievement of the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards. Several students have created curriculum for the Rafiki Project, an international non-profit that gives free schooling to orphans in seven African countries. Action-research project: Puts your outside-the-box ideas into action. Implement a new teaching strategy in your classroom and record the results from beginning to end.
