The 33-hour online master of education degree with a focus in social studies was designed and intended for practicing teachers who have completed undergraduate teacher education degree programs and wish to pursue a master's degree online. --------------------------------------------- The Social Studies Focus Area The 12-hour social studies focus is primarily for classroom teachers, grades 1-12, who wish to advance their knowledge and practice of social studies while obtaining an advanced degree. This focus area will provide you with skills and knowledge applicable to the social studies classroom. Core Master's Course Work The 21 hours of core course work in this degree program include study in learning theory, instructional technology, instructional leadership, instructional strategies, measurement and assessment, and action research. These courses are designed to enhance the process of teaching and learning in the elementary, middle or high school classroom. Students may enroll in up to six credit hours of course work (two courses) prior to admission to the degree program. This allows an opportunity to begin course work before initiating the admission process. However, for these hours to transfer into the student's degree program admission must be finalized and the student must be admitted to the degree program by completion of the six hours.
