The MAT program in social studies education is designed for the student who has earned a liberal arts degree in history or one of the social sciences and desires professional education courses to prepare for teacher certification at the advanced provisional level, and possibly clinical practice as a component of standard certification. The student-teaching practicum enables students to earn the advanced provisional certificate. Students pursuing the EdM degree or CAGS prepare for leadership and curriculum development positions in social studies education . At the doctoral level, students plan individual courses of study with an advisor pursuant to careers in curriculum development and publishing, college or university teaching, or supervisory/administrative responsibility in schools.
