Reading Education from Boston University is a Campus Master Teaching degree that prepares you for a Education career. The Reading Education Program prepares teachers, specialists, teacher educators, and researchers for service in the field of literacy development. Combining study of theories and practice in reading instruction, the curriculum focuses on current research findings; improvement of classroom methodology; analysis of diverse materials and curricula; and service to schools, children, and adults. At the EdM and CAGS levels, students prepare as reading teachers, specialists, clinicians, consultants, and coordinators. The program is designed for professional teachers to move into the reading specialty, and enables graduates to become certified in Massachusetts as teachers of reading . Individuals can usually prepare for certification in other states according to requirements of those states. At the EdD level, experienced educators prepare for responsibilities as college and university professors in reading education , reading coordinators in public schools, and reading researchers. Candidates plan their study on an individual basis, but must complete Schoolwide and departmental core coursework, as well as coursework in research and courses in reading and language development in the School of Education or related departments of the University.
