The program provides the information necessary for understanding correct component identification; systems assembly and operation; layout, design, installation, repair and maintenance of modern plumbing and heating systems; installation and repair of fixtures and appliances; and the fabrication and installation of sheetmetal units. Emphasis is placed on developing the skills used in both residential and commercial plumbing and heating. A graduate of the Plumbing and Heating program should be able to: Demonstrate technical skills that meet quality work standards and safety in the plumbing/heating trade. Use correctly the hand and power tools of the trade. Identify piping materials and install them using proper connections and be able to requisition these materials from a stockroom or a supplier. communicate effectively with others, using the terminology of the trade and develop plans from communication with others . Read blueprints of plumbing systems. Apply fundamentals of mathematic skills. Demonstrate working knowledge of basic building construction procedures in order to rough-in plumbing systems. Apply basic welding and electrical fundamentals that are related to the trade. Apply basic plumbing and heating skills to install, maintain and repair residential plumbing/heating systems, fixtures and appliances. Prepare materials lists and job estimates.
